Summary About Multimedia Basic Knowledges


Colours could be very effective in influencing people’s attention, attitude, and decision making. Colours had been used for learning, marketing and clinical purposes such as multimedia entertainment, branding, and memory related problems such as autism and Alzheimer.
            Earlier studies found that:
1. Coloured multimedia resulted in better attention than non-coloured multimedia,
2. Colours have a better ability to capture attention than variables,
3. The Colours can produce an emotional arousing effect but the range of arousal varies, depending on emotional element that is attached to specific types of colour,
4. The Higher level of contrast level of colour has a higher level of readability, but not memory and retention rate.

The studies reviewed above showed that the usage of colours can lead to better memory performance. Even there are some contradiction, the effectiveness of colours are based on some factors like the consistency of the colours used during encoding and retrieval phases and contrast value. That’s why fast-food restaurants like McDonalds use yellow and red colour because the contrast between that colour can attract attention more. 

Audio is one of the elements contained in the field of  multimedia. Audio in multimedia can be Sound Effect, Background Sound and Narration. Audio functions in multimedia is to give emphasis on things that would be an important point in Multimedia applications.

Harmonic sound circuits can affect the listener's internal condition. We can see, the music listeners who initially sad can be happy. And the initially angry can be calm.


Another function of human-related audio, it can improve memory. The researchers found that listening to sounds equated with a slow-brain oscillation rhythm would improve the oscillation process so that it would improve memory, even sleep quality.
And then, it can developing a creative mind. According to research, relaxation music is able to inspire someone when creating an idea. Musical relaxation can make the creativity better because it has the power to develop higher brain function.
Lots of audio functions are mutually concerned in the field of multimedia with humans directly.

So many thing that we don’t know about multimedia around us .And so many things that support multimedia for the elements, like colour, effect, sound and etc. Multimedia has found extensive application in various and varied fields. The following are some of the main areas where this technology is applied or used likes Home entertainment, Education, Industry, Information Kiosk, Corporate Presentation, Business, Travel and Tourism, Electronic Commerce, Communication and network, Medicine and Healthcare, Engineering Applications, Content Based Storage and Retrieval (CBSR) System.

Multimedia includes 6 thing/elements that build the multimedia so wide, consist of 
1. Text (e.g., book chapter, newspaper article)
2. Image (e.g., photograph, illustration)
3. Graphics (e.g., sketch, diagram)
4. Sound (e.g., speech, music)
5. Video (e.g. TV program, movie clip)
6. Animation (e.g., animation clip)
